Johnny swaggered into a bar, casting a disdainful eye around the place. His gaze took in the cheesy-looking interior, the even cheesier-looking women, and a few men who looked like they had steroid cereal for breakfast. Rolling his eyes, he sat down and tried to ignore the nastiness of the place, ordering several shots of whiskey.

A good half hour later, he was steadily on the road to fall-down drunkenness. Watching out of the corner of his eye, he saw a big-muscled man take the seat next to him, regarding him with a sneer. The man muttered something about "fags" and Johnny whirled around, jamming his fist into his head. After about 15 minutes of yelling, confusion, broken glass and a lot of rolling about on the floor, he emerged with a bloody nose and a bruised fist. He'd thought he was triumphant till he'd been grabbed by the bouncers and forcefully tossed into the sidewalk.

Breathing in the chilly air slowly, he tried to force himself to stay calm, muttering slurred profanities to himself and getting up off his knees with shaky legs.

That was when he thought he spotted someone he knew...

Johnny looked annoyed at that, and sort of snatched the cigarette out of her hands with a gruff "thanks". Without looking at her, he reached out for the lighter and lit up. Taking a drag with his fingers shaking, he finally mustered up a response.

"Just 'cos the prat got me on the nose..." he trailed off, his mind a little too hazy to finish the thought. He struggled for clarity, reaching out a hand to steady himself on the building.

Alison's face softened as she watched him, and, immediately afterward, scolded herself. He was a stupid drunk and it was his own fault, what did she care? However, despite herself, her expression appeared a bit kinder and she took a step closer, gently grasping his elbow in case he lost his balance. "I have a bit of optimism for you: your sense of smell isn't too hot right now, hm?" She went on, smirking. "'Cause then you won't have to smell yourself. You stink like whiskey."

He regarded her touch with something akin to surprize, wobbling a bit.

Laughing at her comment, he met her eyes, feeling remarkably aware of how ridiculous his bloody nose must look, even through his drunkeness.

"Well, if I could manage a shower I'd try it, but I'd likely fall on my face and die."

Alison suddenly sucked in her breath when he looked at her, unconsciously gripping his elbow tighter, and then laughed quietly. "No, can't have that. Are you staying somewhere, or have you just been passing out in the streets lately?" she inquired with mild concern, but mostly regarded him with an impertinent glitter in her eyes.

Johnny muttered something, but it was too slurred to be coherent, so he tried it again.

"Well, there was this nice 'otel but I got kicked out..." He made a face at the memory. "Cos apparently it was non-smoking...and I told some bloke to fuck off but..." Here he realized he was babbling.
"Anyway, that was yesterday, so I've yet to figure out where I'm sleeping."

Johnny sighed, putting out his barely-smoked cigarette and then sort of missing stomping on it 'cause he couldn't get his foot over it.

Alison nodded along absently as she listened to him, still smoking her cigarette with her free hand and blowing smoke away from his face. "Well, I would let you stay with me but-" She paused abruptly as she realised what she had just said, and then frowned a bit. No, why on Earth would she let him stay with her? Again, acting without thinking, she muttered, "You can stay with Jamie and me."

Johnny found himself grinning wolfishly at her, though quickly frowning at the fact that Jamie was involved. Trying to maintain a more passive expression, he nodded.

"Thank you, lovee...I promise I won't cause a spot of trouble for ya." He winked and then totally ruined his act by wobbling again.

Muttering something about being sick, he blanched and leaned heavily on the building for safety.

Alison rolled her eyes at his words. "If you fuck up our hotel room, I will be the one throwing you out," she replied, giving him a hard look to show him that she was being incredibly serious. However, she wrinkled her nose at the word "sick" and let go of his elbow, not wanting to be standing so close if he started vomiting.

"Lord, how much you had to drink?" she muttered, mostly to herself, averting her eyes.

He snorted at her impertinently, but then made a scared noise, staggering back and hurrying a few steps into the alleyway to be violently ill into a trash can.

Groaning, he wiped at his mouth, thinking it might be over. Sadly incorrect, he bent over again, wiping his hand on his tight jeans and hoping he didn't get his hair in the mess.

Alison made a disgusted face but otherwise remained silent, trying to ignore the sound of him retching nearby as she finished her cigarette. She waited a few moments and then cautiously approached him, wondering if he was finished the second time.

"Better?" she asked quietly.

Johnny let out a quiet whimper, then embarrassedly sunk to his knees and leaned against the building, staring blankly at the space in front of him.

Finally, he regarded her.

"...a little...yeh.." he muttered, feeling pathetic. To cover it, he sneered at nothing in particular.

Alison bent down to better view him, and then finally straightened up with a sigh. She glanced around as if checking for people before regarding his sorry form once more.

"I've seen worse. Now," she began quietly, "do you need another moment or do you want me to take you back to my place? You can get cleaned up, sleep and all that shit," she added, trying to be helpful. Admittedly, he wasn't her favourite person, but she did pity him.

He slowly got to his feet, looking rather furious for no reason.

"Let's go back..." he grumbled, in no mood for talking.
Surly, he kicked some pebbles on the street and walked a few feet, past her, defiantly.

Unfortunately, his knees gave out.

Alison growled quietly as he walked past her, bristling at what she thought was an ungrateful air. She briefly contemplated leaving him on the ground, but then heaved a sigh and stepped forward.

"Let's try and make this as dignified as possible. Hand?" She reached out to take his hand, hoping he would be cooperative.

Johnny gave her a look.

"You really think I give a fuck about dignified after all that?" he snapped, taking her hand and unsteadily getting to his feet.

He slowly made his way towards the end of the alley, waiting for her there.

Alison's lips twisted into a bitter smile, and she gave him an indifferent look in return.

"Well, I didn't want you falling flat on your face. That would have been embarrassing," she added, a derisive note in her voice.

She folded her arms over her chest and walked toward him, not uttering another word as she slowed her pace and continued to walk to her hotel.

He stumbled after her, looking greatly irritated, wondering why she was being nice if she disliked him so much.

He also remained silent, looking moody and sour and still quite drunk, glowering at the people in the hotel lobby.

Alison hadn't checked to see if he was following her or not, though she could hear his foot steps behind her, especially when they entered the lobby, as the floors were tiled with some sort of imitation marble.

Coming to a stop in front of the elevator, she finally cast a look over her shoulder at him. "I'm only doing this because..." She trailed off, pressing the up button and then regarded him with an earnest expression. "I don't think you ought to be out there in your state."

He felt his expression soften at that, in spite of himself.

"...thanks, I guess."

A smile briefly appeared on her face, and then she looked away, shaking her head slightly. "It's nothing," she murmured, impatiently pressing the button again until the elevator doors opened at last.

She quickly stepped inside and tried to find her floor, though it was nearly impossible with some of the buttons scratched and marked.

He leaned against the elevator wall, groaning a bit.

"I am so sick. My idiocy never...ne'er ceases to amaze me."

She made a small, pleased noise at having finally found the button to her floor and then glanced over at him with raised brows.

"Your idiocy has a similar effect on me," she quipped with a cheeky smile. She coughed quietly and then changed the subject. "Thankfully, smoking is allowed in this hotel. But it's not like I wouldn't if it were prohibited."

He smiled slightly in return.

"Oh, good to know, you'd have been kicked out as well."

He waited till the elevator doors opened to add softly, " And yes, I know I amaze you."

He smirked a bit as he swaggered alongside her, as if totally aware where her room was.

"Have been kicked out for worse," remarked Alison with a thoughtful nod, and then suddenly turned on him with an incredulous, yet amused, stare at his second comment.

"Still thinking highly of yourself, I see," she replied with a smirk, and then added, "Even if it isn't warranted."

She raised her eyebrows and then sauntered off towards her room. She knocked on the door first, wondering if Jamie was in, and then unlocked the door when there was no answer. "'Ello?" she flipped the lightswitch and peered inside, frowning a bit at the lack of his presence.

Johnny raised his brows incredulously, bringing a hand to his chest as if wounded by her remark.

"Very warranted, thanks very much!"

He rolled his eyes and stuck his head childishly through the door, calling, "Jamieeee!"

When he received no reply, inwardly quite pleased, he moved inside and flopped down on the bed.
